Have you ever heard of the Wilderness Explorers activity at Disney’s Animal Kingdom?
This is a completely FREE activity for kids (and adults too!) to do around Animal Kingdom.
I have always seen the Wilderness Explorers sign all over the park, but since the kids were still kind of young to do it, we never took the time to stop by any of the Wilderness Explorers locations to pick up a handbook, but during this last trip Emma showed interest and so we did it!
To begin, you pick up a Wilderness Explorer handbook from either the headquarters, which is located on the bridge between the Oasis and Discovery Island, or you can just drop by any Wilderness Explorer Troop Leader locations! There is one in Africa, in Rafiki’s Planet Watch, in Asia, in Dinoland U.S.A. and in Pandora – The World of Avatar.
This is a self-guided activity, so you go at your own pace, the activities range from animal observation to learning important wilderness skills. You get to collect over 25 badges each time you stop at one of the Wilderness Explorers locations.
My favorite part about doing the Wilderness Explorers activity throughout the park is that it’s super educational! The kids (and I) learned so much while trying to collect the badges. Plus, it’s a super adorable souvenir too!
We did not complete the entire guidebook, but it’s ok! Because that just means that next time we visit Animal Kingdom we’ll get to stop by at the locations we missed to complete our handbook!
